I think he is trying to upload a advertisement like the one in the magazine a few issues ago. He would probably have better luck if the link was just posted on here to the website with the ad already posted at another address.
Years ago I suggested some kind of a tech session or class on how to trouble shoot a carburetor or how to check to see if a lighting coil is ok for use. It didn’t go over very well at the board. If I remember correctly there just wasn’t anyone willing to dedicate any time for such a class, or anyone that was willing to be questioned on so many different parts of a scooter. I thought it was a great idea and not that many questions would be raised as long as it was a class dedicated to a single subject. Also it was suggested that scooters weren’t as complicated as say Harleys or Indian motorcycles and most any person with a little mechanic abilities could fix whatever.
Well the subject just got lost and forgotten with all the other priorities that the board had to do and take care of for the Portland meet.On another note I tried to hold a session on the website two years ago. It didn’t go over very well. I think maybe six members were interested in knowing more about it. I know the subject matter is different than a tech session or class, but it seemed that not many were interested at the meet. Now taking into consideration that not many members seem to do much on the computer that may have had some to do with it, or the fact that it was a nice day. Who knows? I do think tech classes do go over well at other meets. I’d be willing to arrange a class if someone would like to lead something like that.
As for promoting this website, I have lots of ideas! Some things will be noticeable at Portland promoting it. Also I’m going to advertise the meet in a few magazines that we haven’t ever taken an add in before. I too wonder what is taking so long for members to use it as a resource for restorations, parts, items for sale and wanted, but I just have to remember that the website isn’t really all that old. I believe it will catch on, but I think it will take longer than I would like it to. If we can just get these forums started with some good conversation it will grow. On the positive side of thinking, this website is only about 5 months old and it is much better than the old website.
Ok sure. I think they are regular sportsman decals. Have you got a picture of the decals you have to offer? I can compare them and I’d be able to say for sure.
Heck, I was just asking about this a few minutes ago under one of the other topics. Now I got it. I will see about posting this under events. I still have trouble but I’m getting better at it.
For what it’s worth I believe our site is fairly secure from most spam, but we aren’t bullet proof!
Two weeks left!
Hummm, Very interesting. I don’t know that I would want to continue to hold the license in Vermont, but once I got the registration I sure would give it a go to register it in Ohio.
I’m glad I could help you out. Looks like ya got the hang of it now.
Your lucky that it was not sold over all those years.
I don’t know how much oil the motor uses because I really only use the scooter once a year at Portland. 🙂 LOL But it doesn’t seem to use an excessive amount. It does smoke and I see that as a good thing rather than if it didn’t smoke, which would mean it isn’t getting any oil. I did think about installing a shut off valve, but what if I forgot to turn it on? Yeah I think I’ll just deal with the trouble of draining the oil reservoir.
Speaking of Doodle Bugs, I once received a flyer of a club event of Doodle bugs. Does anyone know if they still meet? I’d gladly post the meet up on this website if I got an up to date flyer sent to me at dchafin1122@gmail.com
I have this problem every year with this particular scooter though, the two cycle oil tends to slowly leak down into the cylinder. Apparently I forgot to drain it this last year and it all ended up in the cylinder. A few years ago when I first got one of these I left it in storage full of two cycle oil and not only did it fill the cylinder, but the exhaust also. The only way to clean it out was remove the spark plug and kick it over. Be prepared for a huge mess. The oil will squirt out several feet in front of the machine.
There you go! I knew you could do it, but what the heck is that? I haven’t seen a tranny like that before.
Charlie,
I’m no computer expert by any means, but I know a little. Usually if you hold your mouse over the picture, it will tell you what size it is. Just let your mouse pointer sit on the picture for about two or three seconds and it should give you a size in pixels. Something like 3000 x 4000.Charlie, send me the photos at dchafin1122@gamil.com and I’ll post the photos for you. They are likely to big. They need to be a size of 460 x 520 pixels.
